About TED

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world
The main TED conference is held annually in Vancouver , British Columbia, Canada. Prior to 2014, the conference was held in Long Beach, California, United States. Past speakers include Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, Jane Goodall, Bono etc.
Since June 2006, TED talks have been offered for free viewing online through TED.com. As of January 2016, over 2,600 TED Talks are freely available on the website.
